Helena Scanlan

Psychotherapist

Helena has a master’s degree in psychotherapy and is an associate member of IAHIP (Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy).

She has worked with a range of client issues relating to anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship issues, childhood trauma, trauma related to sexual violence, and sexuality. She also has extensive experience with diverse populations through her work as a dietitian in public hospitals for over twenty years. She is a state registered dietitian and a member of the INDI (Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute). This work has enhanced her ability to support individuals with emotional issues related to food and nutrition, through a deep understanding of the psychological factors influencing eating behaviours. It has also fostered an insight into how family members of these individuals can be affected.

She approaches therapy from a humanistic psychodynamic perspective, emphasising the importance of understanding individuals in the context of their experiences and relational dynamics. By combining humanistic principles of empathy and unconditional positive regard with psychodynamic insights into unconscious motivations, she strives to create a therapeutic environment where clients can explore their feelings and behaviours. This integrative framework allows for deeper self-awareness and personal growth, facilitating meaningful change.
